Moderation

We try to teach our children moderation in eating and possibly inactivity etc.... do we teach them moderation in a social context and in particular as this video suggests in a digital social network context?
Thought provoking... perhaps modelling is the only way?

Jonathan Collins Cup Reminder

Copy of notice being sent out...

WE HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE SUPPORTING OUR STUDENTS!!!

Kia ora Whānau,
The Jonathan Collins Cup is looking good for tomorrow – the weather is being kind! This notice will help remind students of all that they need to bring/wear etc!

All (non-netball) students are to please wear their full PE Gear to school. If it is very cold – blue or black tracksuit pants are optional. This includes school jersey and a jacket. They will also need to bring a positive attitude and their friendly nature!

All students are to bring their lunch, drink bottle, jacket.

Rugby players are to bring two towels, rugby shorts, rugby socks, two plastic bags, a mouthguard, and boots.

Netball players are to wear their netball uniform, Netballers will be wearing the school tracksuits.

There will be a sausage sizzle at St Michaels – your son/daughter can bring some coins for a sausage if their wish. Please make sure that this is not their only lunch (incase the sausages run out etc.)

If you have any questions, please get in touch with me asap via email/text below

Nga Mihi,

Chris Theobald

Perspective - When we look at the world we are looking at it through our own eyes,

When we are peer mediators, we must understand that everyone's reality is their own perspective. People can honestly tell different versions of the truth without intending to be misleading - it is your job as mediators to work with both parties to find a solution that works for all.
What can you see in these pictures? Is your perspective different to others

Hojoki - Web tool for tracking learning progress with teacher and student collaboration.... (and parents if it works successfully in our trial!)

We are planning on using Hojoki to track our learning progress. I have made a short clip so that you can register for Hojoki. Watch below and follow the simple steps.
We will talk about what we plan on doing inside Hojoki once everyone is set up.

(I know its not a great video clip, perhaps a little long - I would appreciate any feedback about how I could improve these mini lesson videos - feel free to tell me in person or leave a comment)

Nga mihi!

Dialogue Lesson

Here is a quick clip about the current inquiry task.
Well done to those of you who attended the workshop today - if you missed it, here is most of what we covered.
The inquiry task is to be completed by the end of our second session on Holy Thursday.

I apologise that the quality is poor, the image i used in the background wasn't great and I didn't spend enough time preparing for the quick clip so it's a little confusing in parts. Hopefully you will get all information that you require... Some of you may also get the small pun placed inside the clip... If you have any questions, please ask me or Ms D.

We will look to complete a few different clips like this next term to help us in our 21st Century Learning Model in Kakapo. If you can't access these clips at home, the computers will be accessible at school from 8:30 each morning.

Thanks!

Mr T

Sharing planning...

One of our focuses this year is Increasing our 'Student Agency' - this means developing the inclination within each student to take ownership for their learning. It means all Kākāpō students feel empowered to take control of their learning and realise that they are not passive recipients of education.

The latest idea towards this end is to provide access to much of the planning for Kākāpō Class for all students. This way students can prepare their thoughts, and take action to prepare themselves where necessary. We also have given access to the Individual Learning Task Sheet and subsequent docs.

This being said - teaching is a profession where plans change on a daily basis - Students will still be given info verbally about what is happening each week and in the coming days.

Click on the Weekly Planning tab above to check out what we are up to this week.

Happy to receive feedback in the form of email, comments below, or... We will run a survey of some sort in class.

An interesting visitor to our Harbour....

What is the significance of this ship?
(and another question that had me in googling circles... Is it a boat or a ship? What is the difference?)

Hypothetical Question:

We will go through some answers in class - but be creative and see if you can think up an idea for the following question:

How could you get a helium balloon down from a ceiling 10m high?
There is furniture below... so make sure your plan doesn't damage the floor/furniture below. You cannot use a ladder. Its in the middle of the ceiling, not near a wall - even if you did have a ten meter ladder.

Good Luck!

Incredibox V3.

Incredibox is a great app online that lets you create awesome music. We looked at this a few years ago in Kakapo and this year Mrs Harold shared it with our Year 8's at tech. Version 3 is a step up from Version 1.
